We LOVE Barre!

We often get asked what barre is and what it can do for you. It is the perfect partner to Pilates as you will find a lot of Pilates principles in your barre classes. At the Lounge we have fully trained barre teachers who have trained with Bootybarre and Barre Concept. We have consolidated a class with our combined working knowledge but we are never far from Tracey Mallet as she is our true inspiration, quite simply, we love her work and we are heavily influenced by all that she does on and off the barre!

It may look like ballet, but it’s not. Barre fitness classes are simply ballet-inspired, incorporating a ballet barre and maybe some plies and battements. Essentially, barre mixes elements of Pilates, dance, yoga and choreographed into a fun motivating session.  In each energizing and targeted workout, you’ll use the barre and exercise equipment such as mini-balls and small hand weights to sculpt, slim and stretch your entire body.

Work muscles to failure. Barre is different to many other methods in that there are many reps, intentional squeezes and pulses that fatigue muscles to failure and often brings on ‘the shakes’ building tone and strength.

The Benefits of Barre

Hard on muscles, kind on joints. Your entire body is worked from head to toe.  Regular classes will result in a remarkable improvement on your posture, strength and overall  range of movement.  You leave feeling truly worked, invigorated and very satisfied.

Flexible and strong. This is one of the greatest benefits of barre exercise. Sometimes people are flexible but not strong, or strong and not flexible.  The beauty of barre is you are able to have both so you can live a longer active life.

Weight Loss.  The more classes you attend, the more lean muscle mass you will gain raising your resting metabolic rate, which can help you to produce more energy and efficiently expend calories. The sculpting moves can help you drop a dress size by redistributing inches on your body. You feel longer and leaner and coupled with healthy eating you ensure the best results.

Fast results.  In only 2-4 times a week you will notice changes in as little as one month. You may be sore when you first start but you will get fantastic results in no time – so stick with it!

Who is Barre For?

No experience required. It’s all about YOU and nobody else so concentrate on yourself.  Our instructors are experienced and understand everyone has different strengths and challenges, we can tailor the workout to everyone in the room and guide you through the movements with feedback so no need to worry about ‘keeping up’ or ‘getting it.’. Don’t worry about not having any dance training either, it is not a serious ballet lesson, you will have fun! One of the greatest things about barre is that everyone works with small movements and can limit or expand their range of motion to suit them. It always be modified whether you’re a beginner or amplified if you’re more advanced and looking for a deeper challenge.

Sports professionals.  In Barre core muscle groups are targeted that are sometimes neglected in other training regimes, in lots of interesting ways. Rugby players, footballers and athletes can improve their overall balance, range of motion and reduced impact on joints with improved knee alignment for example. Increased endurance and greater recruitment of quads and hamstrings as well as a strong stabilising groups help to protect from injury.  Golfers or tennis players, may attain greater hip openness and movement allowing for a better swing.
